How to Set Your Mind for Success
If you really want to escape the rat race, then you had better learn how to set your mind for success.
Mindset has nothing to do with how much you know or how good you did in school.
In fact, Einstein said:
“THE MEASURE OF INTELLIGENCE IS THE ABILITY TO CHANGE”.
– ALBERT EINSTEIN
Most blue collar workers simply do not grasp this fundamental concept of success. You go through life thinking that if you don’t know how to do something, then you never will.
You end up living your entire life with the belief that “it is what it is”. And that’s a shame. Because the truth is “it is what you make it!”
You don’t believe that you have the ability to learn how to do new things. So you never try.
This is called a static mindset. This mindset keeps you trapped in a life of repetitive routine and mundaneness. It makes you believe that learning ends at a certain age and either “you know it or you don’t”.
And the funny thing is, the truth is the exact opposite.
This idea might seem foreign to you.
After all, you’ve probably been conditioned since a young age to believe that there was a pre-determined ceiling that you had no hope of breaking through.
You might have grown up with the idea that you somehow weren’t worthy of success. Either a parent or a teacher may have convinced you that you either weren’t smart or talented enough to achieve anything worthwhile.
Hey, the world needs ditch diggers too, right?
Therefore, when you first encounter these ideas you resist.
You have been conditioned to play your part in society. And that part is to be a wage slave and consume as much as possible.
For most of us the idea of success is to have a steady job, maybe pay down a mortgage, perhaps sock away some money for retirement, and then relax and “enjoy” life sometime after our 60th birthday.
And that’s fine, if you believe it.
But, if you’re unhappy with your current situation. If you want more, much, much, more out of life. Then you had better put some effort into reconditioning your mind for success.
Once again we’ll use good old Albert’s words of wisdom:
“WE CANNOT SOLVE OUR PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME THINKING WE USED WHEN WE CREATED THEM”
- ALBERT EINSTEIN
So, then how do you set your mind for success?
If it is indeed true that the problems that we have today cannot be solved with the same thinking that got you into them, then obviously, the solution is to change your thinking.
That should seem like common sense.
If you’re reading this post it’s very likely that there is something about your life that isn’t getting you the results that you think you deserve.
It’s extremely likely that your “something” has to do with money, or lack of it.
And, you most likely have a method of earning some money, a job, but somehow it just doesn’t provide enough. Or, it isn’t enough money to compensate you for what you have to endure. (annoying coworkers, asshole bosses, dipshit managers, sitting in traffic, etc.)
And yet, you continue to do the same thing you have been doing all along…
…this should seem like it flies in the face of common sense.
“It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt
But instead, it’s what most people continue to do.
But not you.
Not Now, or Ever Again.
Because you are about to learn how to set your mind for success.
This is How to Set Your Mind for Success
Here are 10 facets of a success mindset that you need to adopt:
It’s time to put on your big-boy pants. You made this mess, and you’re going to clean it up.
So, where do you start with accepting responsibility?
How about right where you are.
Accept that your current situation is the result of decisions that you made. As much as we all hate our current jobs, nobody’s holding a gun to your head and making you show up. Of course there would be consequences for not going to work. But, who’s responsible for creating those circumstances?
That’s right, it’s you.
But this is good news.
Take this idea a step further. If you are responsible for your current situation, then by default, you will be responsible for your future situation.
This kind of thinking really brings into focus the idea that the actions and attitudes you take today do indeed influence your future.
It’s one of the marks of a true winner.
Winners understand the connection between current actions and future outcomes. And more so, they intentionally engage in actions today the will pay off in some way at some time in the future.
It’s called delayed gratification, and it’s one the more powerful weapons in your entrepreneur’s mindset arsenal.
There are certain niches and topics in online business that are extremely competitive. If you’re not willing to fight, then don’t even attempt to get in there. These people defend their turf with tenacity and ferociousness. If you can’t bring the good fight to them then you don’t even belong in the same arena.
A better way to compete is with yourself. What I mean by that is to commit, there’s that word again, to a never ending journey of personal improvement.
Always try to be the best you can be, at everything.
Get a chip on your shoulder, learn to hate losing.
Develop an insatiable hunger for success, never be satisfied.
These are the hallmark traits of the ambitious. When you have ambition and couple it with commitment, you have an unstoppable formula for success.
Adopt this mindset and watch how different the world will look to you.
It will show in your business endeavors and spill over to other areas of your life.
BOLDNESS – AUDACITY
It takes a certain amount of courage to cut ties with the normal world and carve your own way through life. That’s why most people won’t even give it a try.
Today’s society rewards meekness and humbleness and vilifies boldness and audacity. But it is always the bold that are the game changers.
Other than the notable exceptions of Gandhi and Mother Theresa, when has anybody humble ever achieved anything great?
And if we limit our choices to the business world, the answer becomes never!
Move with boldness in the direction of your dreams!
SEE THE BIG PICTURE
Success minded people always keep an eye trained toward the future. They act today with the intent of producing a specific outcome in the future. Sometimes very far in the future.
This kind of thinking is in stark contrast to the way most people think. They may plan a little bit for the future. But if you watch their actions you will notice inconsistencies.
The acts they commit today usually have little chance of producing the future results they desire.
This is one of the reasons that people have such a difficult time with losing weight or saving money.
They simply cannot connect today’s actions (or inactions) with tomorrow’s results.
Part of this is because of our natural tendency to dissociate our present self from our future self. In your mind, the you of tomorrow has already achieved everything you want him to. So, if that’s true, then why does your present self have to sacrifice anything?
It’s as if we all believe our future self will somehow be able to magically pull it all together, even though in many cases our current selves have a lot of trouble managing even basic things like weight and personal finance.
Here’s a news flash: YOUR FUTURE SELF IS THE RESULT OF YOUR CURRENT SELF’S ACTIONS.
Read that again. Write it down someplace and read it often.
Keep this in the back of your mind and watch how your daily actions become more aligned with your goals.
CREATE VS. CONSUME
One of the most basic mindset shifts you can make immediately is to go from a consumer to a producer.
Are you reading lots of blogs? Stop it and go make a blog.
Watching YouTube videos? Stop and start making them.
Buy any get rich quick schemes? Make one instead and sell it to lazy stupid people.
Once you adopt this success mindset you will be amazed with all of the ideas for creation that will flow through your mind.
You’ll have trouble remembering them all. You won’t be able to keep up.
Seeking opportunity for creation everywhere you look will put you in a wonderful frame of mind. You’ll be eager and curious and even happier.
Try it. It’s easy to do and the payoff could be life changing.
STRIVE TO LEARN
Successful people are lifetime learners. They have what’s called a growth mindset. They seek to learn, learn, and learn some more.
There’s a saying that illustrates this: “Rich people have big libraries; poor people have big televisions”.
TV is for idiots. It’s a tool used to brainwash you into blind consumerism. And it is brutally efficient. Shut it off and buy some books.
Every free moment of time, when you aren’t working on your business, your nose should be buried in a book.
You should constantly read books that will: teach you new skills (how to write better, how to build a website, how to grow tomatoes), and develop your mindset (Think and Grow Rich, Awaken the Giant Within, The Slight Edge).
If you want to read some fiction, don’t read the latest best seller bullshit. Read the classic novels (A Tale of Two Cities, War and Peace, Of Mice and Men).
The final tip for this facet of successful mindset is, always stay curious.
Successful people are resilient people. Never mind the hardy working class. Those at the top have endured more failure and folly than anybody who has a steady 9 to 5.
Believe it. Anybody who has any measure of success has failed numerous times.
If you want the successful mindset, you better get used to failing. In fact, you should actually look forward to it. Those with the mindset of success know that within every failure is a lesson to be learned.
Another way people with a winning mindset differ from everybody else is the way they react to criticism. Especially criticism from underachievers.
They know, without a doubt, if an underachiever disagrees with them, that they must be on the right track.
Don’t let the haters get you down. They know nothing and aren’t worthy of your thoughts.
To set your mind for success you’re going to have to learn to trust yourself. Gone are the days when you would second guess yourself out of anything even remotely risky.
You have to develop your intuition, that feeling in your gut that tells you yes or no, and learn to trust it. Successful people know this and rely on intuition to make good decisions and take calculated risks.
Another facet of self trust is being able to fly in the face of conventional wisdom.
Entrepreneurs usually come up with their own way of doing things. And many times they are told “it won’t work” by those who adhere to common thinking.
Without self-trust you simply don’t stand a chance of making it as a successful entrepreneur.
A positive outlook is one of the defining attributes of success. To set your mind for success you have to try to see the benefit, no matter how small, that is hidden in every situation.
It takes mental toughness to do this consistently. But if you practice and develop this trait you will become immune to criticism and failure.
By always trying to find the benefit every scenario becomes a blessing.
Another way to set your mind for positivity is to focus on outcomes instead of punishments
When most people consider taking a risk they usually think only about the potential consequences if things go wrong. As you can imagine, this dissuades them from taking the risk. With fewer risks taken there are fewer chances for them to have a life changing win in their lives.
They would rather play it safe than take a chance that could grow into something life changing.
Flipping that on its head will help you develop a success mindset. While it’s always prudent to weigh the possible consequences of any risk, it’s better to focus on the possible benefits.
Success minded people spend much more time focusing on the possibilities rather than the punishments.
You can see how these two strategies feed one another. Focus on the benefit and see the possibilities.
Instant positive outlook.
By practicing both of these you will develop the third leg of the positive mindset table, expecting things to work out.
You look for the benefit, you focus on the possibilities, why wouldn’t you expect things to work out?
The final difference between the winner’s success mindset and the loser’s static, fearful mindset is this:
WINNERS TAKE ACTION – LOSERS DO NOT!
That’s really it in a nutshell.
Winners have learned how to harness their fears, losers allow fear to dictate their circumstances.
They press on despite perceived obstacles. In fact, they expect to encounter some bumps along the way. The loser avoids obstacles; no matter what prizes may be waiting on the other side.
To them, just the thought of discomfort sends them scurrying back to their comfortable recliners where they can console themselves with junk food while they fill their mind with junk television.
“whew, that was close”, they think as they stuff themselves into what amounts to a food induced coma.
In comparison, the winner salivates at the thought of an obstacle. “another chance to prove I’m worthy”, they think.
They roll up their sleeves and get to work. They know that the doorways to riches are seldom unguarded. And they smile at this. Better to dissuade the unworthy from even trying. Less competition means a better chance of winning to them.
That is the biggest difference.
You now know the traits and characteristics that separate the successful from the ordinary. If you want to be successful as an online entrepreneur, you are going to have to work hard to develop these traits.
When these traits start to become a natural part of your personality you will be well along the path of setting your mind for success.
Personal development and mindset cultivation are a lifelong process for success minded people.
Make sure you don’t overlook this vital aspect of success.
